Cherry Hall Table
34.5" x 56" x 15.5"
Cherry, and Bolivian Rosewood
I built the first table of this design in 2005. The overall concept came quickly, but the exact splay of the legs (they cant in both directions) took some time to get just right -- a few fractions of an inch one way or the other was too much or too little and looked very awkward. That time I built the table in very splashy woods. I wanted to reproduce it in calmer wood because I felt the form was so successful that the flash was irrelevant. I chose a single massive plank of cherry big enough to provide all the wood for the table. Each leg is hand carved as are the drawer pulls. All other surfaces are hand planed to the final finish. As effective as the last version was, this quieter one is even more to my liking.
