Serenity, peacefulness, contemplation - such thoughts and images were in my mind as I composed and crafted this piece. No, I'm not a Buddhist, but I am drawn to stillness and sometimes an object can simply transmit an inner harmony that reaches towards that space. I attempted to embody quietude in this work.
The "roof" raises to reveal a mirror and a compartment partitioned for earrings, necklaces and brooches. The middle drawer has a ring bar and spaces for larger pieces, while the bottom drawer is left open for odd sized items -- all is lined in velvet. The carved hawthorn branch is lashed to the drawer fronts with linen thread. Quietude.
