Ceiling Lantern
18” x 8” 8” red oak with redwood veneer shade.
I sawed the redwood veneers that form the shade from old growth lumber salvaged from a dismantled water tower. All joinery is pinned mortise and tenon. This client's home is in coastal Washington state and they wanted a reference to their maritime surroundings so we decided to suspend the lantern with manila cord. I joined the lantern to the cord with a "monkey's fist" a traditional, ornamental, sailor's stopping knot. Supplied with a wooden canopy for ceiling attachment.
